Sealings and Top Coats

Reactive Sealing

Finishing process, also called Inorganic Sealing, applied after passivation. These are solutions based on Sodium, Potassium or Lithium Silicates that can be doped with Silicon Dioxide Nanoparticles for higher performance. They work by reacting chemically with the passivation layer, sealing the existing micro cracks and giving it greater cohesion and impermeability.

The presence of Silicon Dioxide Nanoparticles adds a healing effect that extends the protection conferred.

Most of these processes also have a small organic component, usually Epoxy, which allows one additional organic cover over the sealed Passivation . In this case it can be given the designation Organo-Mineral Sealing.

Such process enables an increased White corrosion resistance in the Salt Spray Test which can range from 100 to 200 hours.


Top Coats

Top Coats are normally colloidal solution of organic polymers (Epoxy, Polyethylene, etc.) that allow the deposition of an organic layer over the passivation layer. This organic layer, also called Varnish, will function as an insulating barrier, increasing the overall corrosion resistance.

The applied layer’s thickness can vary between 0.3 and 2 microns depending on the nature and concentration of the organic agent used. Typically greater thicknesses are associated with an increased corrosion protection.

Additives may be added with Friction Coefficient Reducing agents, also called lubricant agents, being this situation very requested for parts that will need to be assembled like screws, bolts and sliding parts.

Additives with a black dye for application on black passivations , homogenizing and deepening the final coloration obtained can also be added.
